Boy Pleads Guilty to Felony After August Car Accident in Eagle

14-year-old is held responsible for causing serious injury.

Colorado - A boy who fled the scene of a crash in August that seriously injured a woman has pleaded guilty to a felony, authorities said.

Julio Garcia, of Gypsum, was 14 years old when he was driving a pickup truck and turned in front of a motorcycle driven by Patricia Arden, of Castle Rock.

Arden was going east on U.S. Highway 6 when Garcia made the turn from Green Way Aug. 4. Arden went down with the motorcycle and may have been run over by the pick-up, the Colorado State Patrol said.

Arden was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction with serious injuries, the State Patrol said.

Police found Garcia at his home after the crash, the Colorado State Patrol said.
On Wednesday, Garcia pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, a felony, said Arleen Sandberg of the Eagle County District Attorney’s Office. Garcia’s other charges were dismissed in the plea agreement, she said.
